Between July and September 2021, the International Tennis Integrity Agency received 13 alerts for the ATP Challenger level, 9 from the M25 Men's World Tennis Tour, 7 from the M15's Tour and another 2 from the Women's World Tennis Tour. The entity assured that these alerts do not constitute evidence of match fixing.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced Wednesday in its Q3 summary report that, between July and September 2021, it has received a total of 38 match alerts through its confidential Memoranda of Understanding with the regulated betting industry. This includes two alerts at The Championships, Wimbledon and two alerts at the US Open.

The ITIA acknowledged that it had received two Wimbledon alerts back when it published its Q2 data, based on “possible irregular betting partners”. However, the event with the most alerts was the ATP Challenger, which ended up counting 13.  A total of four match alerts came from Grand Slams—two at Wimbledon and two at the US Open. Nine came from the M25 Men’s World Tennis Tour, seven alerts were from the M15’s Tour and another two came from the W15 Women’s World Tennis Tour.

The Davis Cup, ATP World Tour 250 and the W80 Women’s World Tennis Tour had one alert each.

Even though the entity will carry out a further analysis of these alerts, ITIA clarified in its Q3 summary report that these alerts do not imply that match fixing has taken place in these events.

According to a statement released by ITIA, “unusual betting patterns can occur for many reasons other than match fixing – for example incorrect odds-setting; well-informed betting; player fitness, fatigue or form; playing conditions and personal circumstances”

The entity also informed that “where analysis of a match alert does suggest corrupt activity, the ITIA conducts a full, confidential investigation”.

“The number and distribution of alerts are reported quarterly. Care should be taken in drawing any conclusions about prevailing corruption across the tennis ‘pyramid’ as there are many more matches at the bottom than at the top”, the entity added.
